Audio description is a live commentary for people with any kind of visual impairment that paints a picture of the action taking place during the performance. The description begins before the performance when the commentator sets the scene with an overall description of the set and continues throughout the play during natural breaks in the dialogue. They will describe the set, costumes, props, the actors’ movements, expression, body language and any other visual aspect of the production that is important to the performance.
BSL (British Sign Language) interpretation provides people who have hearing impairments with a live translation of all the words that are spoken and sung during the performance. As a language BSL is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expressions and body language.
