PRESS RELEASE The Edinburgh International Festival appoints an Artistic Administrator

Matthew Studdert-Kennedy has been appointed to the new post of Artistic Administrator at the Edinburgh International Festival.

This role has been created to support the Festival Director, Jonathan Mills and the Director of Planning and Operations, Alison Riach in planning the Festival.

Matthew’s role includes assisting with the artistic planning of the programme, programme research and the detailed scheduling of rehearsals in the performance schedule.

Matthew’s previous jobs have included the General Manager of the Hebrides Ensemble, Education Fellow at the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and an assistant lecturer in Music in the Community at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a music animateur and flautist.

Matthew Studdert-Kennedy’s recent roles have included General Manager of the Hebrides Ensemble, Education Fellow at the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and assistant lecturer in Music in the Community at the University of Edinburgh. He has worked on creative music projects for the Northern Sinfonia, The Sage Gateshead, City Halls Glasgow and The University of Edinburgh where he teaches on the award winning Music in the Community Course.

Matthew has also worked as a freelance flute player and is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague where he studied flute with Emily Beynon. He has performed with ensembles including the Orchestra of St Johns, Hebrides Ensemble, Ensemble Klang and Edinburgh Quartet. He is a founding member of new music groups Ensemble M.use (The Netherlands) and the Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra whose CD release Munich and Glasgow features Matthew's piece Dissenting .
