PRESS RELEASE Festival seeks new visionary and inspirational leader

The Council (board) of the Edinburgh International Festival today released details of the search for a successor to Brian McMaster, who will step down as Director of the Festival after his final Festival in 2006, following fifteen highly successful years.
The Festival Council is seeking a visionary and inspirational leader with a successful track record in managing major arts organisations and large-scale artistic events. The new Festival Director will be responsible for programming the 2007 Festival and beyond.
Lesley Hinds, Chair of the Festival Council and Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh, said today: ‘The Director is the creative force at the centre of the Festival, shaping and driving a multi-dimensional programme each year that is innovative, challenging and world-class. We are looking for someone who has an in-depth knowledge of the arts that crosses boundaries and cultures and who has an international reputation for artistic vision and flair.’
